Stay Close began at home, at night.

I wasn’t thinking about a person.

I was thinking about the way the night has always held me.

The silence.
The stillness.
The feeling of becoming more awake when everything else grows quiet.

At night, I feel more energy, more curiosity, more room to create.

I realised I could write a song from that feeling.

But the feeling moved into different language.

Skin.
Breath.
Heat.
Electricity.

Words that can belong to another person, but can also describe the strange closeness of the night.

Maybe that is why the song can sound like it is asking someone to stay.

Maybe it is.
